4. The website that Katie chose, English language Arts WebQuest, involves inquiry-based learning. Students were asked to reasearch the causes of global warming and then create original ideas that will help slow down out carbon footprints on a local level and also on a global level. The students in this webquest are asked to do higher-order thinking and also apply new knowledge to an understanding of the real world.
5. I do not believe that the activities that either I or jackie chose involved inquiry based learning. Neither of the activites have initial probing questions that lead to higher-order thinking questions nor do they allow for problem solving or critical thinking.
In the activity that Jackie chose the students are asked to research a specific geological period and then create a travel brochure. The questions asked of the student to report on are only researched based questions that do not allow for the student to problem solve or think critically.
In the activity that I chose the students are also not asked to problem solve or think critically. The format of the activity only allows for the students to anser fact based questions.
6. I believe that my rubric best assesses inquiry based learning tasks. It address an initial probing question that leads to higher order thinking, critical thinking and problem solving. It states that students need to beable to communicate, collaborate, be engaged in the task and explore the task in collaborative settings. It also addresses the need of the students to have scaffolding experiences and also be able to make connections and apply their new knowledge to an understanding of the real world.
